The Boiling Pot: Prophecy of Jerusalem's Siege

24
Chapter 24
1 And the word of the LORD came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth of the month, saying: 2 Son of Adam, write for yourself the name of the day, this very day: the king of Babel has leaned against Jerusalem, on this very day. 3 And declare to the house of rebellion: Declare, and you shall say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Lip of the pot, lip, and also pour into it water. 4 Gather its pieces to it, every good piece, the thigh and the shoulder, the choice of bones. 5 The choice of the flock taken and also the pile of the woods under it—boil its boiling; also they cooked its bones in its midst. 6 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Woe to the city of bloods, the pot whose portion is in it, whose portion did not go out from it! Its pieces, its pieces! No lot fell on it. 7 For her blood is in her midst; it is on a bare rock. She poured it out; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it with dust. 8 To raise up wrath, to take vengeance, I have set her blood on a bare rock, so that it will not be covered. 9 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Woe, city of bloods! Also I, I will make the pyre great. 10 Heap on the wood, kindle the fire, finish off the flesh, spice the broth, and let the bones burn up. 11 He stood it on its coals. It was empty, so that it would become hot and its bronze would burn, and its impurity would melt within it; its filth would be consumed. 12 Unleavened bread offerings, burning, and it will not go out from it; its rust has abounded; in fire its rust. 13 In your impurity, lewdness—because I purified you and you did not purify yourself from your impurity, you will not purify yourself again until I rest my wrath in you. 14 I, the LORD, have spoken. It has come, and I will do it. I will not relent, I will not spare, I will not regret. According to your ways and according to your doings, I judge you—utterance of the Lord GOD.
